CELEBRATING THE WOMEN WHOSE LIGHT AND STRENGTH I CARRYπŸ‘‘πŸ’•πŸ₯°

I was raised by great women and I celebrate this women’s month by honouring the women who paved the way and worked hard for me to be the woman that I am today. I honour the unwavering love, strength, resistance, resilience, power, pride, excellence, confidence, timeless grace and glamour they emanated when raising me. They nurtured and loved me unconditionally with the purest and most infinite love that is kind, caring, never-ending, gentle, unconditional, and always reassuring.

But this post is specifically to honour the woman who birthed and raised me, my late mother, Mmaphefo Elizabeth MfikoeπŸ₯° I’m writing this open letter to pay tribute to her for all the sacrifices she’s ever made in raising this strong woman.

My Dearest Mommy, My Forever QueenπŸ‘‘

Thank you for being there for me, you’ve supported me through absolutely everything. You have been my biggest, most dedicated and loyal fan through every single stage of my life and I couldn’t have asked for a better cheerleader. You put up with my unpredictable, incomprehensible mood swings and countered them with nothing but love and kindness. You have forgiven every ungrateful comment and every unnecessary eye roll, thank you for not holding those years against me. Thank you for knowing when I was wrong and immediately scolding me. I may not have liked it then but looking back, I now know it was done out of love because I’m better off. Thank you for seeing the goodness in me even when I didn’t deserve it. Thank you for holding me while I cried and promising me that tomorrow would be a better day. You’ve been my rock through heartbreaks, disappointments, life decisions, milestones, and new chapters. You’ve carried me through when I was convinced I couldn’t go on. You helped me find grace and strength even through my worst memories and I know that even on my saddest days I was never alone. Thank you that you were my very best friend, being my first (and daily) phone call, and being my biggest (and most caring) confidant. You answered your phone always with the same enthusiasm every time, whether it’s my first or the tenth call of the day.  I am eternally grateful. Most importantly, thank you for you showed me right from wrong, for you always encouraged me in my walk of faith and for teaching me the value of respect not only for others, but for myself as well.

Thank you that you taught me that I´m stronger than my physical appearance because you have never let your disability define you nor stand in your way, you used what was meant to be your weakness as your strength. You accepted your condition and made the best out of it, one of the many reasons why I admired and still admire you as much as I do even beyond the grave. I never understood how you managed all the years, and I remember seeing Didintle go through the same even though for her it is just temporary, I fully understood that it was never easy for you, yet you carried yourself with so much grace. So, thank you MAMA for being that headstrong woman that you were. Thank you for the teachings and lessons of the importance of hard work and the essence of being a woman (a strong a black queenπŸ‘‘). While you and Daddy worked so hard to give us the greatest life possible, you also reminded me that everything has a price tag and “nothing in life is free, except for Jesus.” You have always pushed me to be the very best version of myself and to work for the things I want, rather than to expect them. Thank you for pushing me to be independent. Every single day, I become more confident in myself. You always told me that the ability to be financially and emotionally stable on my own is imperative, I see now that you couldn’t have been more correct. Thank you that you passed down some of your best qualities to me. You taught me to fight for everything that I believe in and to never back down. Because of you, I am not afraid to stand up for my beliefs, I fight fiercely and with everything in me. I inherited my convictions and my passion from watching you, and I’m a better person because of it. You were a much-needed reality check in moments when I would be overwhelmed, you always believed in me more than I believed in myself. Thank you that you always pushed me to try my hardest without expecting or asking too much of myself.

Thank you that I was forever your little girl, and no amount of growing could change that. Thank you that you have never, not even once gave up on me, I hope I have half the perseverance you had. Thank you that you always kept me grounded, you never hesitated to remind me where I come from because sometimes, I really needed that reality check. Because of your faithfulness I have been encouraged to grow closer to the Lord, you were selfless, and you put everyone’s needs before your own.

I will forever love you, MAMA, not a day that goes by without me feeling blessed that you were both my mom and my best friend. I got my independence and sass from you, and I am grateful. Sometimes I know I got so busy that I wouldn´t get to see and spend as much time with you but you were and are even beyond the grave still so much appreciated. Certainly, I wouldn’t be the woman that I am today if it weren’t for you and your convictions. So, thank you MA for absolutely everything, you were my hero, and I know that I was greatly blessed to have had a mother like you, a queenπŸ‘‘ and the best mommy ever! Continue to rest in peace Tshetlhana ya ko ga Matshabe, Kgabo setlogolo sa Bakgatlha!
